Meet Joseph

Joseph was brought to our doorstep a couple weeks ago now. He's 2-years-old. He was born in Bangkok but he has lived with his grandma inside of Burma since he was 5-months-old - when his parents returned with him to their home village only to abandon him there. They don't know where they are. The separation from his grandma was difficult. He obviously loves her and she him, but she is simply not able to care for him either physically or financially. He was in very poor condition. Underweight with a bad case of worms as well as loose and "papery" skin. Worse than his physical condition was his complete listlessness. He wouldn't move. We could place him anywhere we wanted and he would simply stay there. Which, although making life much easier, was heartbreaking really. The one thing worse than a hyper child is one who has no spirit. Already he looks so much better! He had hernia surgery last week and is recovering nicely. He has began to smile and to laugh and is beginning to venture into Ning-ih and JooJoo's world and join in on their adventures. He's extremely bright - on his own accord he's already folding his hands and praying together with us without any prior exposure to prayer (judging from the devil strings that he arrived with.) He loves singing and will attempt to sing along! It's such a delight to see him go from listless to a happy and active child!
Watching the transformation of a child from sickness to health, broken spirit to healing has got to be one of life's most rewarding experiences!

And so we now officially have the equivalent to 2-year-old "triplets"....
Yes, life is seldom boring!
